Those who Served

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) commemorate over 300,000 British and Commonwealth service personnel at more than 12,000 locations. For the first time running from the 21-28 May 2021, war graves week will shine a light on CWGC work and the people who keep remembrance of our war dead alive. Through a series of talks, tours and events, both physical and virtual, War Graves Week will bring an immersive and inclusive programme that will reveal CWGC’s work and history in all its variety and demonstrate its continuing relevance today. You can get more details of events at cwgc.org

To mark this occasion, Phil Stringer member of the Midhurst Society and a volunteer with the CWGC, has been recording details relating to the names on the war graves in Midhurst, Easebourne and West Lavington.  He has kindly agreed to allow us to share this information.  We hope that more stories will emerge over time, which we will add to these pages.

********************************

In addition to those who gave their lives, many men and women served their country and returned, often with wounds both physical and mental.  Their memories are not preserved in the same way, and we would like to acknowledge that fact by recording some of their stories here as well.  Please help us to add more names.
